Project Description
Sea of the Mind  is a film about isolation, memory, and perception.

It depicts the journey of the last human, navigating through a foreign landscape and rediscovering elements of the past in forgotten artefacts. After witnessing themselves as one of these objects they disappear, existing only through memory, bringing both reality and the very nature of existence into question.

The film was made during COVID-19, and is a metaphor for our transition as a species; socially, biologically, technologically, from one state of being unto the next. During the pandemic I sailed across the Atlantic from the Caribbean to Europe, encountering many ecosystems devoid of human life, yet which contained recent traces of human actions. The film references these traces through my own journey,  exploring the abscence of humanity in nature.

Shot on Super 8, the film fuses analog imaging techniques with a soundscape made of environmental recordings, instrumental compositions, and AI generated tracks. The recordings were made before the sailing trip, documenting the ecosystems of the island I left from, during the sailing trip, and after, documenting the land that I arrived to. These different methods merge the natural and the artificial, the analog and the digital, time and space, questioning what will remain when our species is gone.

Sea of the Mind  is a personal and collective navigation through the complexity of our current epoch, exploring how, even in isolation, we will always remain a part of the ecosystems we have come from, and live within.
