Ecology of Difference

Project Description
I started this series to try and understand how I was connected to nature, and what part of me was human within that connection. As a queer person I struggled for a long time to feel like I was natural, and I began taking portraits of other LGBTQIA+ people in the Caribbean to visualise how we are part of the natural world. This evolved into a photographic practice documenting people of different nationalities and sexualities, all merged with the ecosystems they are a part of, and sustained by.
In these images the human disappears, layered through multiple exposures with their environment. I took these photographs on film and developed them myself. Using tools in which the final outcome is unknown, both the images and their subjects dissolve boundaries, coming alive through a similar, fluid process.
This ongoing series is an exploration of the constructed boundaries which separate and connect us to nature, dissolving the ecology of difference into a more entwined state of being.
